Volunteers will play an important role in the success of the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022. Our inclusive community of volunteers will represent the Championships and come together to create a global gymnastics event and unforgettable experience welcoming the world to the sport of Gymnastics and City of Liverpool.

Commitment

Just like gymnasts are committed to the sport, we’re looking for volunteers who are committed to making this event special. Please ensure you satisfy all the requirements listed below.

  • 18+ on 1 October 2022
  • Speak and read English or communicate in British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Available to complete at least 5 volunteer shifts between 29 October and 6 November 2022
  • Available for an online or phone interview
  • Able to attend a training session
  • Agree to a background security check if required for your role
  • Able to provide proof of ID
  • Able to attend and meet the cost of accommodation, travel and expenses for the duration of your shifts at the Championships
  • Accept and agree to the Volunteer Code of Conduct, Volunteer Commitment, and Privacy Policy
  • We will consider every application we receive
  • We will give the WGC2022 volunteers the chance to input into the volunteer process and journey
  • We will notify you if you have been successful as a volunteer by May 2022 via the volunteer portal or email
  • We will make sure your volunteer shifts are sent to you by the end of July 2022 so you can forward plan
  • We will ensure that each shift you’re required to work is no longer than 8-10 hours
  • We will provide you with a meal/refreshments and uniform for the event
  • We will have fun and create memories to last a lifetime

There are five main role departments for WGC2022. These are Event Operations (this includes Accommodation, Accreditation, Spectator Services, Sports Presentation, Ticketing, Transport and Workforce), Commercial, Sport, Digital and Media and Hospitality/Protocol. Applications

Applications to volunteer at the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 (WGC2022) will open from 24th January 2022 at 10am. You can apply to volunteer by clicking here.

We are looking for people with a good grasp of verbal and written English, with an abundance of enthusiasm and willingness to learn, offering help to each other and looking to gain new experiences. Our values are what guide us in all we do. We are ambitious, authentic, inclusive, we care and we lead with integrity.

In order to volunteer for WGC2022 you must:

  • Be 18 years+ on the 1st October 2022
  • Be able to speak and read English or BSL
  • Have the right to work in the United Kingdom
  • Be available between 29 October – 6 November 2022 to complete a minimum of 5 volunteer shifts
  • Be available for an online or phone interview
  • Agree to our WGC2022 Code of Conduct, Volunteer Commitment (T & C’s) and pass any relevant background checks
  • Complete and attend all required training pre-event

The application process will close on 13 March 2022 at 23:59 (GMT).

Roles and Requirements

We welcome international applicants but please note you must have the right to work in the United Kingdom. We are unable to offer accommodation and/or travel expenses for any of our volunteers, including any Covid-19 entry/testing requirements that may be still in place at the time of the event.

We will be asking volunteers to commit to a minimum of 5 shifts/maximum 50 hours. Please note a shift is 8-10 hours in duration.

We are aiming to offer volunteer positions for approximately 600 roles.

WGC2022 is taking place at the M & S Bank Arena, Liverpool. Although most roles will be within and around the venue, there are a few roles based in hotels and in the City of Liverpool.

As part of the volunteer application form you are able to choose up to 4 areas you would like to be considered for.

You don’t need to have volunteer experience to apply as we welcome applications from all backgrounds who can show willingness to learn and commit to the minimum shift requirements.

Interview Process

Depending on the number of applications received, we may be required to conduct interviews for oversubscribed roles. For certain roles requiring specific skills, qualifications and/or experience, we may need to conduct selection interviews. Interviews are scheduled to take place in mid-March to early April.

We are aiming to confirm all successful applications by the end of May 2022. We will keep a reserve list of those who have not been successful in the first round of applications but wish to hear more on any additional opportunities that become available as the event planning continues.

Volunteering Training

Yes, training will be provided to all volunteers. Successful applicants will be expected to attend one mandatory training session in October 2022 where critical event, venue and role information will be shared. Dates and times will be confirmed to those who are successful as early as possible. We are unable to offer travel expenses for any of our volunteers to attend the training sessions. We are also closely monitoring the Covid-19 guidelines and this training session will move to virtual if required and deemed safer closer to the event.

If you forget your password to log into your account, please go the Volunteer Login page here, press Login and on the next screen, click the ‘forgot password’ button.

If your availability changes after you have been selected for and accepted a role and have been provided with a schedule of shifts, you can contact us using the ‘Get in Touch’ tab found in the portal. Each request will be dealt with case by case.

Please let us know if your circumstances have changed and you think you are no longer able to volunteer at WGC2022. If you do not wish to be considered for volunteer roles, please log in to your portal account, go to the left-hand menu and click on ‘Close Account’. This will withdraw you from the volunteer process.

Please log in to your portal account and use the ‘Get in Touch’ tab, found in the search bar along the top of the screen to let us know any changes in your requirements. A member of the WGC2022 workforce team will be in touch to discuss the changes.

If your details change you can update them by logging into the volunteer portal and going to ‘Profile’ tab on the left-hand side menu. Remember to scroll to the bottom and save any changes you have made.

All key information documents will be housed on the volunteer portal. This portal will be used from now through to the Championships. In order to see the documents, we will share or signpost you to, please login to your volunteer portal using the following link wgc2022volunteers.teamkinetic.co.uk enter your email/password and once in scroll down the left-hand side menu to Resources & Help.

We would like you to celebrate your success by sharing the news of becoming a WGC2022 Volunteer across your personal social media channels using the assets (a video and image) found within the Resources & Help section of the portal. Please use the hashtag #MakeItHappen and don’t forget to tag wgc2022!

Once your application is complete and you have successfully been offered a role, you cannot change the roles you wish to be considered for.

We are asking that you email us at volunteering@2022worldgymnastics.co.uk if you would like to decline your role, so we can update the volunteer management system our side. We will not be able to offer you another role following a decline unless by exception.

We do not ask for a formal contract to be signed, however there is a Volunteer Commitment that must be agreed to within your application prior to your submission. We also have a basic code of conduct we expect all volunteers to adhere to and this can be found on the portal once your application has been submitted.

General Queries

We understand that people may wish to attend the event as a spectator as well as volunteer. If you have purchased tickets for the event, please let us know when we come to allocating shifts so we can take this into consideration.

Volunteers will be provided with a uniform suitable for performing your role.

We will provide a meal(s) for volunteers dependent on the duration of your shift. Drinks will be available throughout each of your shifts.

We welcome applications from both within the UK and internationally, but we are unable to offer accommodation and/or travel expenses for any of our volunteers.

We remain positive and optimistic the event will go ahead as planned but we appreciate circumstances can change quickly. We are reviewing protocols and contingencies on a regular basis in conjunction with Government guidelines.

We may use and process your personal information where it is necessary for us to pursue our legitimate interests as a business, these and further information can be found by reading the Volunteer Privacy Policy.

Additional information

We may be asked to perform background checks by external parties for the approval of event accreditation. Successful applicants will be performing roles on behalf of the WGC2022 and acting as event ambassadors, and as such will need to adhere to a code of conduct that will be shared with all volunteers. WGC2022 is an equal opportunities event and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.
